 The Magnesium Firestarter by Emergency Zone is a superb magnesium bar and striker set.  The assembly features a magnesium bar attached to a striking bar and includes a striking tool, all of which are attached to a keychain.  Many magnesium bar firestarters require you to shave off small slivers of magnesium with your knife and then use your knife on the striker as well.  This only dulls your knife and slows down your firebuilding time. 

With this magnesium bar firestarter you are able to scrape off tiny fragments of magnesium with the end of the srtiking tool.  You can scratch off bits of magnesium with the striker tool and then catch the fragments in a small bed of lint or dry tinder.  Afterward, strike the striking bar with the striking tool and watch the magnesium shavings light up.  An magnesium firestarter is an essential firebuilding tool for emergencies because of its durability and the fact that it can be used hundred and hundreds of times.
